William ‘Nelson’ Burgos, a resident of of Tappan for 48 years, passed away peacefully at home with his family on November 18, 2014. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on December 12, 1927 to Temisto and Herminia (née Marrero) Burgos. He came to the US in 1946 and served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of the New York City printers’ union and then owned and operated the Hunt’s Point Hardware Store in the Bronx until 1989.

He was a devoted father to his son, Peter Simonelli and his wife Hannah of Palisades, NY. He was a loving Bubba to his five grandsons, Alex and Dylan Wisnewski, Joseph, Jack and Lucas Simonelli. He also leaves behind three step children, Fred and Jeanette Ramos of Tappan and Sesi, and Robin Ramos. He is survived by his wife, Patty Gloeckler of Tappan, and his beloved children, P.J. Lionel Leibesberger passed away peacefully on January 29, 2015 surrounded by family at his bedside.

He was a proud member of the Closter Elks, VFW, American Legion Post 111, and the Closter Volunteer Fire Department and the Closter Volunteer Ambulance Corp. George F. Heise, beloved Husband, Father, Granddad, and Great Granddad, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a self-employed Civil Engineer and Surveyor, and a Closter resident since 1957. He and his wife, Doris, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2014. George was a WWII Navy Veteran, and a proud graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Edna was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Closter NJ. She is survived by her niece, Lois Walsh-Gallina of Columbia County, NY, Lois’s husband Greg, a great niece Lisa Gallina and a great, great niece Iris. Lisa and Iris live in Beacon, NY. Among Edna’s many close friends were Claire and Bob Walker and their family, Irma Schmuck and her family and Ann Goldsbury. Pastor Bob Holsten conducted a memorial service for Edna at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 171 Closter Dock Road in Closter, NJ.

He enjoyed ten pin bowling and once rolled a perfect game. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid reader, and was a fan of the Orioles and Ravens.

After retiring Denis began a second career as a Royalty Representative at Pearson Education where he worked for a further 15 years. She attended schools in North Tarrytown and later worked in the accounting department of General Motors Corporation. He defined "father." He was both all guts, and all heart. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Sacred Heart Chapel in Sparkill followed by a burial at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, NY. Visiting hours were at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. A Funeral Mass took place at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan followed by burial at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.

He was born on January 13, 1945 in the Philippines to Ananias and Leonore DeLeon. Nathaniel came to the US in 1970 and was a longtime resident of Rockland County. Before retiring in March of 2009, Nathaniel practiced law for over 20 years at Paul Weiss, Rifkin & Garrison in New York City. He was a member of the New City United Methodist Church, PAGAR and a former officer of Filipino Association of Rockland. Warren Walter Hafer, Jr. of Tappan, NY passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY, with friends by his side.

She was a woman of exceptional talent and grace, and will be missed but never forgotten. Edna Walsh, nee Hansen, of Northvale, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3 in Hackensack Hospital at Pascack Valley. Edna traveled with her father to Denmark for an extended visit when she was a child.
